I finally hit 50 unique board games played this year and it surprised me
I keep a little list on my phone of every board game I try for the first time, and last week I checked and realized I was at 47. Then over a three day weekend I played 3 more new ones with my group, bringing me to exactly 50. Has anyone else tracked their play count and hit a milestone that felt bigger than you expected?

That's awesome hitting 50! I did something similar a couple years back and tracking it in a notes app made a huge difference for me. What worked was setting a goal of trying at least one new game each month, but not stressing if I missed a month. Then when a holiday weekend or game day popped up, I'd grab a couple shorter games like "The Crew" or "Love Letter" to fill gaps without burning out the group. The surprise was realizing how many games I actually liked once I stopped worrying about winning and just paid attention to what clicked. Definitely helps to have friends who are cool with quick teach sessions too.

Did you pick out specific games ahead of time or just let whatever your group suggested be the next one? For me, I found it helped to set a loose goal of trying one new game a month. I'd keep a few short ones like "Sushi Go" or "For Sale" on standby for when people showed up late or we had a spare 20 minutes. Those quick games added up faster than I expected and didn't burn anyone out on learning heavy rules. By October I realized I was at 42 and had to literally request we play a new game for a few sessions to cross the line.
