I used to hate solo gaming nights until last Thursday changed my mind
My regular group bailed on me last Thursday, so I set up Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion alone at my kitchen table. I figured I'd play 30 minutes and get bored, but I ended up running two characters for 4 hours straight. Something about not waiting for other people's turns made the whole thing click. Has anyone else had a surprise solo session that totally hooked you?

That Mage Knight story from @amymason reminds me of my first solo board game death.

My first solo session was with this old game called Mage Knight. I set it up on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee and told myself just one round. Seven hours later my coffee was cold and I hadn't eaten lunch. I kept telling myself just one more turn because I wanted to see if I could take that keep before the rampaging orcs showed up. Ended up losing horribly but I was already planning my next try before I put the pieces away. There's something peaceful about being able to take as long as you want on your decisions without someone sighing or checking their phone.
