Just realized my game collection sorting system took 8 months to figure out

I spent last December trying to organize my 200+ board games by publisher, then by mechanism, then by player count. Each time I ran into trouble because games like Wingspan fit multiple categories. It took until this August to settle on a simple alphabetical system with color-coded shelf labels. Has anyone else found a method that actually works long term without constant tweaking?

Alphabetical is the only way that sticks long term.

Oh man, I've got a buddy who tried that with his movie collection. He spent a whole weekend alphabetizing everything by title, even color-coded the spines with little stickers. Three months later he was pulling his hair out because he'd keep putting new movies on the wrong shelf since he couldn't remember if "The Dark Knight" went under D or T. Last I heard he'd given up and just stacks them in piles by genre now, which drives his wife insane. So yeah, your mileage may really vary on that one.
