Met a guy at a con who taught me a better way to teach new games
At Gen Con last year, I was watching a guy run a demo for a heavy euro game. He had a stack of colored cubes and a small whiteboard. He told me, 'Never explain the win condition first. Show them the actions they can take right now.' He then ran a five minute demo using just the cubes to show the action flow. The group picked it up way faster than my usual method. How do you handle teaching complex games to new people?
