My BGG logged plays hit 1,000 last night and I honestly feel weird about it
I track every single play on BoardGameGeek, even the quick ones, and last night while logging a round of Love Letter with my wife I hit play number 1,000. My wife asked why I went quiet and I didn't know how to explain that this dumb spreadsheet has basically become a diary of the last 6 years of my life. The crazy part is 214 of those plays are just one game, Spirit Island, because my regular group in Columbus got obsessed with it during the lockdown and never stopped. But here's the thing that bugs me: I look at my shelf and realize I own 87 games and probably 30 of them have never even been punched. I keep buying stuff because it looks fun on a review channel, then I play the same 5 games over and over with the same 3 people. Hitting 1,000 should feel like a big deal, but it mostly made me feel like I've been buying instead of playing. Has anybody else tracked their plays and had it backfire on them like this?
1,000 plays in 6 years is like 3 games a week. That is not a lot of board gaming honestly. Most people who post here probably play more than that. The unpunched games thing is real but also who cares. You bought them, they sit there, some people collect stamps and never mail a letter. The part that is weird is treating a log as a diary of your life. It is a list of games. Your life is the wife and the three friends you play with. Those are good things. Sounds like you are doing fine and just looking for a reason to feel bad on a Tuesday.
