PSA: Gen Con's open gaming hall is overrated for serious play
I spent three hours at Gen Con last August trying to get in a proper game of Twilight Imperium in the open gaming hall. It was a complete mess. People kept walking through our table, someone spilled soda on my map, and the noise level was so bad I couldn't hear a trade negotiation. Honestly, I think the hype around that space is way off. I'd rather book a room at the connected hotel or find a quiet cafe nearby. The open hall feels more like a crowded showcase than a place to actually play. Has anyone else found a better spot in Indianapolis for deep games during the con?

Nothing like paying a hundred bucks to sit in a giant echo chamber with someone's Mountain Dew soaking your space game. Sounds like a real galactic trade negotiation simulator if you ask me.

Nah man, I gotta disagree on this one. A well-run con is more than just overpriced tickets and spilled soda. You get to meet the actual devs behind the game, ask them stuff directly, see new content before it drops. The energy in a room full of people all hyped about the same universe is something you just can't replicate on a stream. Yeah, sometimes the logistics are a mess, but the good moments make up for it. Not every experience has to be perfectly comfortable to be worth it.
