Question about the math behind winning streaks in competitive games

Was reading a thread on BoardGameGeek about tournament results for a heavy euro game I play. Someone crunched the numbers and found that the top player in their local group won 73% of matches over two years. That seemed high but then they pointed out that skill variance in complex games is way bigger than luck. Made me wonder how much of that win rate is the player versus the game design. Do any other groups here track their win percentages?

Honestly, that 73% stat is wild. Ngl, I've been tracking my own group's results for a similar heavy game and the numbers are really humbling. The top player in our circle has a 68% win rate and we've all been playing together for about 18 months. Tbh, I think the game design matters a lot because some games just give too much advantage to whoever figures out the meta first. In our case, that player is just straight up better at planning ahead, so it's mostly skill. It makes me feel a bit better to know it's not just luck when I lose to them, but it also makes me want to study their moves more closely.
