Showerthought: scoring pads are a total ripoff

Was sorting my game shelf last night and counted 14 half-used scoring pads. Each one costs like $8 new. That's over $100 in paper I'll never use. Found a printable online for free. Printed 20 sheets on cheap printer paper. Works fine. My group laughed at me but after 3 games nobody cared. Why do publishers even include them? They just take up box space. Anyone else ditch the pads for printable sheets?

The real ripoff is how thick those pads are too. You get maybe 30 sheets but the cardboard backing is like a quarter inch thick. Total waste of space. My group switched to laminated sheets with dry erase markers. One sheet lasts forever and we just snap a photo of the scores at the end. Saves paper and nobody fights over who gets the fresh pad. Plus you can draw game notes or whatever on the back.

Wait, you're laminating score sheets and using dry erase markers for game night? That's genius actually, I never even thought of that but it makes total sense. How long do those laminated sheets usually hold up before the markers start ghosting on them?
