That time my Catan game got flipped by a 2 year old

I had my best Settlers of Catan setup going last Saturday at my buddy's place in Portland, 8 points and a road to victory. My friend's toddler grabbed the edge of the table and sent cities, roads, and resource cards flying everywhere in about 2 seconds flat. How do you rebuild a strategy game with a little kid around without just locking everything in a closet?

And you were so close too, that's the part that stings the most. I've had a similar thing happen with my grandkids and a Jenga tower once, it's almost like they have a sixth sense for when you're really invested in a game. @claire958 is right, being that close and losing it all is brutal. Best advice I can give is to accept that with little ones around, the game is more about the fun of rebuilding and less about the final score. Maybe next time set the game up on a high table or a counter where tiny hands can't reach, and keep a backup snack stash for distraction.

Kids have this insane radar for the exact moment you're locked in. It's like they can smell focus and they just have to break it. That's life though, right? You can prep for hours, line everything up perfect, and then a toddler or a random hiccup just wipes it all out. Makes you realize the win is never guaranteed until the last second, and even then something can blow it up.

Oof, "8 points and a road to victory" gone in seconds. I feel for you, that's brutal when you're that close.
