TIL co-op games aren't just for casuals, learned that at a Thursday meetup

Three years ago I swore off co-op board games, thought they were too soft compared to competitive stuff. Last Thursday at a local game shop in Tucson, this guy walked me through a round of Spirit Island where we coordinated 3 players against the board and I finally got why the tension can hit just as hard. Anyone else flip on a genre they used to dismiss?

Hold on to that feeling, but co-op loses me once it turns into one person quarterbacking the whole table. Spirit Island is the exception, most co-ops just feel like group solitaire to me.
