Unpopular opinion: The guy at the game shop in Springfield who judges your whole collection by one box is the worst.
I was buying a copy of 'Wingspan' and he saw my bag, then said 'Oh, you're one of those light game people.' He based my whole taste on that single purchase. Does anyone else get this kind of snap judgment from other players?

Ugh, that's the worst kind of gatekeeping. I just ask them what heavy game they'd recommend for someone who likes Wingspan's mechanics. Puts the ball back in their court and usually shuts down the attitude. Why do people feel the need to rank hobbies like that?

That ranking mindset comes from people who treat gaming like a resume builder instead of just fun. Tell them you play to relax not to prove anything and watch them short circuit. Most folks who gatekeep heavy games are really just insecure about the time and money they dumped into learning complicated rulebooks.

Ever think lighter games were just for beginners?
