18 years of welding and I just learned I've been reading my bevel gauge backwards
A new hire fresh out of trade school watched me set up a joint and politely asked why my bevel was cutting into the wrong side of the plate. Now I'm sitting here wondering how many jobs I've made harder than they had to be, has anyone else had a simple thing flip their whole process upside down?

That trade school kid just saved your back for the next 18 years... I've been there with stuff like that. Once I spent a whole weekend rebuilding a trailer hitch only to realize I had the tape measure upside down on every single cut. Makes you wonder how many little things we just do wrong forever because nobody questions them.
