Hit 2000 boiler tubes replaced last month and it felt weird
I been doing this 12 years now and when I hit 2000 tube replacements on that big job in Gary, Indiana, I stopped to think for a second. That's a lot of tube rolling and welding, and I realized I got way faster at the prep work over time but the final pass still takes just as long. Any of you guys track your numbers or just let the work pile up without counting?

You ever know a guy named Mike from down at the shop? He used to keep a little notebook in his pocket. Wrote down every tube he pulled and every weld he finished for like 5 years straight. One day his wife found it and thought he was writing a diary or something. He told me he just liked seeing the numbers go up, but when he lost the notebook one weekend, he never started again. Said it made him realize the job is just the job, not a scoreboard. I guess some guys need that number to feel like they're moving somewhere.

Respectfully I think tracking numbers just makes the job feel like a grind instead of just doing good work.
