Question about rolling a tube sheet, I think I was doing it wrong for 9 years
I was rolling tubes on a 300hp firetube unit in Gary, Indiana about 3 weeks back and the seal kept weeping no matter how many passes I made. An old hand from Local 374 stopped by, put his hand on the tube, and said "you're rolling dry, that's your problem." Turns out I had never been cleaning the tube ends proper before expanding, I just wiped them with a rag and called it good. He showed me to hit them with a wire brush and a little oil, and the difference in the torque feel was night and day. Anyone else get taught one way and find out way later there was a whole step you skipped?
