Saw a 40 year old boiler still running in Gary, Indiana last week
I was up in Gary doing a weld inspection on a newer unit and the plant manager pointed me to a corner unit that's been running since 1984. Same shell, same tubes, just rebuilt twice. What got me was the logbook they keep on it, every pressure test, every tube swap, every little patch job written down in the same notebook. My crew cant even agree on who brings the coffee, let alone keep records like that. Makes me wonder how many of our modern boilers will still be kicking in 40 years with all the fancy controls we got now. Anyone else run into an older unit that just refuses to die and what keeps it going?
