That ultrasonic thickness gauge from Amazon was garbage
Had to redo a whole day of tube wall testing because the readings were off by 0.03 inches on a 12 inch schedule 40 pipe, convinced me to only buy from the proper supplier even if it costs double.

Wait hold on, you lost me at 0.03 inches on schedule 40 pipe? That's insane. I mean I get that cheap tools can be off but three hundredths of an inch is a massive error for wall thickness work. That's not just a bad reading, that's like the gauge was straight up lying to you. I've messed around with some of those cheap Amazon ultrasonic gauges for rough work on residential units but I would never trust one for anything critical like tube wall testing. The fact that you had to scrap a whole day of work because of that thing makes me angry just thinking about it. You're absolutely right to just eat the cost from the proper supplier. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for and that's one of those times where the cheaper option is just a trap.
