The $90 auto-darkening hood I grabbed off craigslist paid for itself in one day
Picked up a used Speedglas from some guy in Port Arthur and it's way better than the cheap fixed shade I was running, the lens stays clear until the arc hits. Anyone else run into deals on used hoods that turned out better than new budget stuff?

Eh, one good day doesn't mean much. That hood could crap out next week and then you're back to square one with no warranty and no recourse. Craigslist finds are hit or miss, and autodarkening lenses die without warning, usually right when you need them most. Plus, who knows if the previous owner dropped it or fried the sensors. Sure, it paid for itself today, but ask me again in six months if it still works.
