Vent: I still hand sketch my rolled joints on graph paper, my foreman wont let us use the tablet app
I have been laying out rolled plate sections for pressure vessels for about 9 years now, and up until 2023 I did every single one by hand on graph paper with a scale ruler and a mechanical pencil. When our shop in Gary got those tablets with the layout app two years ago, I figured my days of smudged pencil marks and erased radius lines were done for good. Nope. My foreman still wants the paper copy clipped to the job packet because he says the app drawings don't show the weld map the way he likes to read it. So now I do both, sketch it by hand first, then punch the same numbers into the tablet so the office is happy, and it adds about 40 minutes to every vessel. The frustrating part is the app actually catches my math on the circumference splits, which saved me on a 96 inch shell back in March. Any of you deal with a shop that runs both systems and how do you keep from losing your mind doing everything twice?
