A customer's comment about my endpapers made me rethink grain direction

I got a book back from a customer last week and she said the covers were bowing a little, and she asked if I had glued the endpapers with the grain running the same way. I had no idea that was a thing, honestly. I checked my stack of paper and the 11x17 sheets I was cutting down were all wrong for what I was doing. Swapped to grain-long paper and even my sample bindings lay flatter now. Has anyone else had a customer point out something that you just never considered about your materials?
