Hinge chatter in a 1912 ledger I restored last month
I was regluing a family Bible and heard the old binder at the shop down in Austin mention that modern wheat paste can swell old boards if you don't let it tack up first. He showed me a 1912 ledger where someone rushed it and the hinges now creak like a porch step. I took my time on the next one, waited 8 minutes before closing, and it shut smooth as glass. Has anyone else run into swelling issues with older text blocks that were glued too wet?
