I used to think grain direction didn't matter much for small books

I was binding a 4x6 journal last month and decided to test grain direction deliberately after reading a forum post. The one where I went against the grain came out wavy on the cover within three days, and the other is still flat. Has anyone else seen warping that fast on a small project?

Yeah my buddy tried the same thing with a notebook for his kid. He had to redo the whole thing after the cover warped in like two days.

Absolutely crazy how fast it shows up. Bound a set of planners last year and half of them had the grain wrong, they were cupping before I even finished gluing the covers. Never skip checking the grain direction even for tiny books, it's just not worth the gamble.
