I was out of binder's thread but had a spool of old fishing line, so I tried it on a small notebook project.

It actually worked surprisingly well for the kettle stitch on a 48-page text block, though I wouldn't trust it for anything bigger than that, has anyone else ever used a weird substitute in a pinch?

Oh, that's clever! I've used dental floss before.

Actually @vera_adams, that's sewing thread... dental floss can be too waxy and leave a residue.

That's a solid point from webb.derek. It's funny how many household items have a better specific tool for the job, but we just grab what's close.
