Rant: PVA dried too fast on my last batch and cracked all the spines
I tried using a fast-dry PVA for a run of 12 journals last week and it was a disaster. The glue set before I could get the covers lined up, and 7 of them cracked along the hinge when I opened them for testing. Turns out my workshop at 65 degrees with low humidity was the real issue, not the glue itself. I should have tested on scrap boards first instead of jumping straight into the real job. Anyone else had this happen and found a way to slow the drying without changing adhesive brands?
Did you check the temp of the boards themselves before gluing, or just the air in the room? Cold stock will pull the moisture out of PVA way faster than the ambient temp alone would suggest, especially in a dry shop. Curious if you ruled that out or if it was purely the air conditions that got you.
