Shoutout to the person who pointed out my grain direction mistake

I've been binding for about a month and my covers kept warping slightly, just enough to be annoying. A binder at the local craft fair in Springfield looked at my work and gently asked if I checked the grain on my book board. I realized I'd been cutting it based on the board's shape, not the paper's grain, for every single project. Now I spend that extra minute to test it before I cut. Anyone else have a simple step they overlooked at first?

Wait, really" - it does matter even with good board, trust me.

Wait, really? I gotta be honest, I never check grain direction on my board, only the paper. My stuff lays flat. I think if you're using decent quality board and gluing up right, the board grain barely matters. My early warping was from not weighting my covers while drying, not the board. Maybe it depends on your local humidity or something.

You never check the board grain at all?
