Showerthought: pressed a 300 page text block with too much glue and turned it into a brick
Yesterday I glued up a 300 page text block and used my usual amount of PVA, then pressed it for 2 hours like always. What came out was a solid brick with zero flex at the spine and the pages cracked when I tried to open it. I think the glue soaked too far into the grain because the paper was thinner than what I normally bind with, and I clamped it way too hard. Has anyone else ruined a block this way, and do you cut back on glue or just press lighter for thinner paper?
