Dropped $80 on a fancy moisture meter and it lied to me

I bought one of those digital moisture meters from a garden supply place last spring because I kept killing my fiddle leaf figs. The stupid thing kept saying my soil was dry when it was actually soaked, so I drowned two $40 plants before I figured it out. Now I just stick my finger in the dirt like my grandma said to and it works way better. Anyone else had a tool that just made things worse instead of helping?

80 bucks for a finger replacement... kind of a steep price just to learn your grandma was right all along.

Paid 70 bucks to get my lawnmower fixed last summer just to hear my dad say "told you to check the spark plug first." Expensive lesson in humility, that one.
