My monstera finally pushed out a fenestrated leaf after 14 months

I got this cuttings from a friend in Portland back in March of last year, and it just sat there looking like a plain green blob with zero holes. Then last week, after I moved it two feet closer to the east window and started watering with rain water instead of tap, the new leaf came in with three actual splits on each side. Has anyone else seen a sudden change like that from just tweaking light and water, or was it just a timing thing?

Hold up, you switched to rain water AND moved it at the same time? That's two big changes at once, so how do you know which one did the trick? I'd be real curious if you moved it back to the old spot but kept the rain water, or the other way around. My own monstera took forever to get holes too, and it turned out my tap water was way too hard for it, but I also had it shoved in a corner with barely any light. It's kind of annoying not knowing which variable actually matters, but hey, at least it finally did its thing.
