My new grow light timer failed and killed a tray of seedlings

It happened last Thursday, right after I set up the new system. I had to restart from seed, which set me back about three weeks. Anyone have a timer brand they trust for a basic indoor herb setup?

Oh man, that's the worst feeling. I know you said the timer failed, but just to check, did you plug the light itself directly into the timer? Sometimes people plug the power strip into the timer, and then the strip's own switch gets bumped off. (I've done that myself and felt so silly.) For a basic herb setup, those cheap mechanical dial timers have never let me down, honestly. They're simple and there's just less to go wrong.

Can I get a refund on my shame?

Yeah I gotta say I used to be all about those fancy digital timers with the wifi and everything. Thought they were the only way to go because you could set different schedules for each day. But after reading this and hearing about everyone's mechanical timer luck, I'm starting to think simpler is smarter honestly. My digital one glitched out last month and killed all my basil seedlings and I was so mad. Maybe it's just me but I feel like those mechanical dial ones are basically indestructible compared to the smart stuff. They just click on and off at the right time with no drama.
