Noticed everyone over-misting their ferns lately
It's causing a lot of root rot issues. I learned the hard way with my maidenhair.

Yeah that root rot thing is real. My friend killed her beautiful Boston fern last month because she was spraying it like three times a day, she thought more humidity always meant better. The pot was basically a swamp and all the fronds turned brown and fell off. She was so confused because she thought she was helping it.

That's the classic over-love kill. Seen it happen with ferns so many times. The soil needs to dry out a bit between waterings, even for humidity lovers. A moisture meter saved me from doing the same thing.

Was she really upset when the fern died? It's such a common mistake to make with houseplants, wanting to give them all that extra humidity. The thing is, roots need to breathe, and constant wetness just chokes them out. I've lost a few plants myself from being too eager with the watering can. It feels awful because you're trying so hard to help, but it ends up doing the opposite. Tell your friend not to feel too bad, most plant people have been there at least once.
