Paid $90 for a moisture meter and it lied to me

Bought one of those fancy 3-in-1 meters off a garden site. Said my fiddle leaf fig soil was bone dry. Watered it. A week later leaves were yellow and mushy. Turns out it was reading wrong the whole time. Stuck my finger in the dirt and it was soaking wet. Trusted a gadget over actual touch. Anyone else have a tool that just straight up failed you?

Ngl, a $90 moisture meter feels like overkill for a houseplant anyway. Stick your finger in the dirt, it's free and way more reliable.
