Showerthought: My neighborhood's switch to native plants is sparking debates on curb appeal vs. ecosystem health.

I'm torn between wanting a lush, green yard for looks and planting natives to help bees and birds, where do you stand?

Why can't native plants look lush and green too?

Check out the native gardens in my area, some look wild at first but then you see the patterns. They change with the seasons in a way a flat green lawn never does, which is its own kind of beauty. @jamie_price has a point, plenty of natives are lush, you just have to learn what that looks like beyond just grass. The debate often misses that a healthy, buzzing yard full of life has its own curb appeal, just a different one.

Funny how neighbors who hate the look at first often come around once they see the butterflies and birds. It’s like the yard becomes a little show that changes every month, and people get into it.
