Showerthought: That $150 'rare' philodendron cutting was a total bust for me

I dropped $150 on a single node cutting of a variegated philodendron last spring (you know, the kind everyone on Instagram is obsessed with). It rotted in my sphagnum moss within two weeks, and I felt like a total fool. Meanwhile, my $12 pothos from the grocery store is thriving on neglect and has tripled in size since then. Has anyone else had a fancy plant totally fail on them while the cheap ones just keep going?

Totally choked on my coffee reading that price tag.

Faithb76 I'm sitting here staring at the number trying to make it make sense. Coffee almost went through my nose and now my keyboard is at risk. That's a whole car payment for what looks like a slightly fancier version of something from Target.
