Spent $120 on a fancy soil thermometer and it saved my tomato starts
I killed three batches of seedlings last spring because I thought I could just eyeball the soil temp. Bought a proper thermometer and my germination rate went from like 30% to 90% overnight. Has anyone else had a cheap tool actually pay for itself that fast?

Whoa, hold up. $120? What kind of fancy thermometer does that? I'm curious if it's one of those infrared ones or maybe the long stem type for deep beds? Cause I'm sitting here with my $8 analog probe that's been working fine for years but now I'm wondering if I'm missing something big. Did you notice a big difference in how fast it reads or how accurate it is compared to a basic model?

dude THREE batches? that's like $60 in seeds down the drain, maybe more depending on what you were growing. i would have lost my damn mind after the second round, so mad respect for sticking with it. but yeah, $120 feels steep for a thermometer, even a fancy one. i got a basic digital probe for like $15 on amazon and it does the job just fine, no issues. still, i get the appeal of the fancy one if it's got that instant read and long term durability. your germination jump is wild though, 30 to 90% is basically a whole new garden.
