Spent $45 on a Venus flytrap and it bit my finger

Bought it at the Green Thumb nursery in Springfield. Thought it needed a bug, so I poked it with a toothpick. Thing snapped shut on my finger instead. Felt like a tiny green bear trap. Anyone else have a plant fight back?

Did it actually hurt or was it just a surprise? I've always wondered if they have any real bite to them.
