Tried growing tomatoes in fabric pots vs. plastic nursery containers this summer and the difference was ridiculous

The fabric pots gave me roots that looked like a fluffy root explosion after 3 months in Calgary heat, while the plastic ones just had roots circling around like they were stuck in traffic, has anyone else noticed this with their own tomatoes?

Oh man! My buddy tried the same thing last summer in Edmonton. Fabric pots exploded with roots, plastic ones were like a root jail. He swore off plastic after that.

...and honestly that's the part I'm still trying to wrap my head around. Like, did you notice any difference in how fast the soil dried out between the two? I've heard fabric pots need watering way more often, but for that root explosion it might be worth it. Also, were your fabric pot tomatoes actually bigger or just the roots? Because I've seen some people swear they got more fruit too but others say it's just a healthier root system that didn't necessarily mean more tomatoes.
