Unpopular opinion: a $4 bag of sphagnum moss beat my fancy humidity tray for my calathea
I spent $22 on one of those ceramic pebble trays for my calathea in my dry Chicago apartment last winter, and the leaf tips still went crispy by February. Then a guy at a plant swap in Logan Square handed me a ziplock of sphagnum moss for 4 bucks and said to just tuck it around the base and keep it damp, and the new leaves came in perfect within 3 weeks. Am I crazy for thinking the moss trick works way better, or has anyone else had a humidity tray actually do anything?
