Finally got my repoint mix right after a talk with a retired mason
I was fighting with crumbling mortar on a 1920s row house in Philly for two weeks, tried three different ratios and still had it flaking off. An old guy walking by stopped and said I was washing the joints out too fast after striking, so I slowed down and covered the wall with burlap for three days instead. Have any of you dealt with lime-rich old brick that just won't hold a modern mix, or is it always a patience game?
