Finally treated myself to a $250 Marshalltown trowel after using a cheap one for 2 years and it's already paying off in smoother joints

I was skeptical dropping that much on a single trowel but the balance and flex on this thing makes buttering bricks way less arm fatigue on longer jobs - has anyone else noticed a big difference upgrading their hand tools?

Whoa, I gotta disagree on that one. Yeah, a nicer trowel feels good in the hand, but I've been using a basic Marshalltown for years and my joints come out just as flat and smooth as anyone else's. The real game changer for me was learning a better technique with the handle not the price tag.

Read somewhere that even pro masons used to swear by beat-up old trowels back in the day... said the worn edge actually helped them lay smoother joints.
