Lost $150 on a bad mortar mix order last month
I bought a pallet of Type S mortar from a supplier down in Springfield, figured I was saving by buying bulk. Turned out the batch was old and clumpy, wouldn't stick right no matter how much water I added. Had to scrap three sections of a garden wall I was building and start over. Anyone else get burned by a dusty pallet from a discount yard?

Man I heard a guy on a building forum say the same thing happened to him last summer. He bought a whole pallet of this cheap mortar from a resale place and it was all crusty on the inside. He ended up having to haul it back and they gave him a hard time about the return. That's why I only buy from the local masonry supply now, even if it costs a bit more upfront. They always let me check the batch date before they load it up, and they'll swap out old pallets no questions asked. Sucks you had to scrap your wall though, that's a lot of labor down the drain for some bad mix.

Drove myself crazy trying to save ten bucks on a batch of cheap thinset last year, @victor_carter51, and ended up busting my back chiseling out a crooked shower floor. Guess that's what I get for trying to be a discount DIY hero.
