Lost $80 on cheap mortar mix from a big box store
I thought I was saving a few bucks grabbing a pallet of the store brand mortar mix from Lowe's last spring. Took it to a job out in Oakville, mixed up the first batch, and it just didn't feel right. It was crumbly and wouldn't hold a proper suction on the bricks no matter how much water I added. Ended up wasting half a morning trying to make it work before I gave up and sent my apprentice to the proper masonry supply place. That pallet cost me about $80 and I had to toss the whole thing because I couldn't trust it on a paying job. Has anyone else had bad luck with those generic mixes from the home centers?
