Read something wild about old brick sizes in a library book
Honestly, I was at the local library last week looking for something to read and picked up this old book on building history. Ngl, I was just flipping through it when I saw a part about how a 'standard' brick wasn't always the size we use now. The book said that before the 1900s, bricks could vary by over an inch in length from one brickyard to another, even in the same city. They didn't really standardize until railroads made it easier to ship them long distances. It made me think about some of the repair jobs I've done on century-old houses where nothing lines up perfectly. You're chipping out mortar and the bricks are all just a little bit off, and now I know why. Has anyone else run into this on a restoration project and had to get creative with the mortar joints?

Yeah @jamie_price, just use a fat mortar joint to hide the size difference.
