Straight edge vs string line for long brick walls

I did a 60 foot garden wall last week and used a string line like always, but my helper kept pushing me to try a straight edge. Ended up with a slight dip in the middle that I didn't catch until the mortar set. Which method do you guys trust more for keeping long runs dead level?

Man that dip in the middle hits different when you're standing back looking at it. I tried a straight edge on a 40 footer once and ended up chasing a bubble for an hour before throwing it in the truck. String line might be old school but at least when I mess up I know it's my own bad knot or sagging line.

@sageburns a little candle wax on the string fixes the sagging problem real quick.
