That time I spent 8 hours trying to get a single corner brick to line up on a chimney cap in Memphis
Kept thinking I was off by a millimeter, re-did that one spot four times, and it turned out my level was bent from being dropped the day before - anyone else ever chase a level that was lying to them?

Level was probably fine until I dropped mine off a ladder onto concrete in 2017. I spent three full days trying to figure out why every door frame I hung was slightly off plumb. Finally grabbed a brand new 4-foot level from the shop and checked my old one against it. The vial was actually cracked, not bent, but it was showing almost a quarter inch bubble shift to the left. Made me feel like an absolute fool, but at least I know now to check my tools before blaming the job.

Man, that's brutal. Three days is a lot of frustration to go through over a cracked vial, but hey, you caught it and that's what matters now.
