Vent: That fast-setting mortar I doubted turned out to be a lifesaver on a cold day
I was dead set against using that rapid-set stuff for years, figured it was too expensive and finicky. Last week on a job in Buffalo when the temp dropped to 38 degrees, it set up solid in under an hour while my regular mix was still soup. Anyone else had a product they were sure was gimmicky but ended up saving them?

Didn't you used to swear by the traditional stuff too? I was exactly the same way, thought the rapid-set was just a waste of money. But last winter it got me out of a bind and I've kept a bag in my truck ever since.

Crazy thing is, that rapid-set actually works better in the cold than the regular stuff does. Regular concrete takes forever to kick off when it's below 40, but the fast stuff seems to ignore the temperature and just does its thing anyway. I've had pours freeze solid overnight with traditional mix and had to chip it out the next morning. Never buying the standard bags again for winter work lol.
