Watched a crew lay brick at an old church in Savannah and noticed something off
I was dropping off a package near a historic church renovation and saw them using completely different mortar colors on the same wall. Has anyone else seen inconsistency like that mess up the whole look?

Watching that kind of work go wrong is really frustrating, especially on an old building like that. A church in my town had a similar issue where the new mortar was way too light and it made the whole front look splotchy. It's like once they start mixing different bags or brands, you can't unsee the patches. Such a shame when someone doesn't pay attention to the details on a place that's been standing for decades.

Ugh, "you can't unsee the patches" is exactly right. It's like they made a splotchy quilt out of the church wall instead of a nice uniform brick job. Maybe they were going for a distressed, patchwork look? Like, oh yeah, we're preserving the historic "we gave up halfway through" aesthetic. It makes you wonder if they just raided whatever leftover mortar bags they found in someone's garage.
