Appreciation post: that $15 rice cooker I almost returned

I bought a cheap rice cooker at Target three months ago and almost brought it back after the first batch came out mushy. Turns out I was using way too much water... once I figured out the right ratio, it's been a lifesaver. I can make a big batch of rice for under a dollar and pair it with whatever veggies or beans are on sale that week. Saved me from ordering takeout at least four times last month. Has anyone else had to learn the hard way with a new kitchen gadget?

Is it just me or is half of "learning to cook" just figuring out how to not mess up the simple stuff? I wasted so much money on takeout before I realized I was overcomplicating things like rice and eggs.

Saw a cooking blog say the same thing about grocery delivery apps making people overthink basics.
