Back when I had to plan meals around bean soaking times

I used to soak beans overnight for chili to save money. Now I can use canned beans, but the flavor isn't the same, and I miss the routine. Do you think some budget cooking steps are worth the wait?

oh man, planning your life around bean hydration is like some ancient ritual. it's the ultimate test of patience vs poverty, lmao. honestly though, the canned stuff tastes like a sad compromise, like you're cheating on your own dinner. there's a weird pride in that stupid overnight wait that instant stuff just can't match.

That weird pride in the overnight wait you mentioned, my friend Lisa totally lives for that. She once forgot her black beans soaking for two whole days and called it a happy accident. When she cooked them, she went on about how rich they tasted, like she unlocked some secret level. She said canned beans feel like giving up on a good meal. Now her calendar has bean soak days marked in pen, which is a lot, but hey, it works for her.

What if that wait is what makes the whole meal taste better? Like, the planning becomes part of the flavor, you know? You remember starting the soak yesterday, and now eating feels like finishing something. It turns cheap beans into a special thing, just because you had to slow down.
