Giant bag of rice seemed thrifty until the pantry moths came
Bought a 25 pound bag of jasmine rice from a bulk store. Thought I was being smart, saving money. Stored it in the garage. Three months later I opened it and moths flew out. Little brown ones everywhere. They got into my flour, my oats, even my pasta boxes. Threw out probably $60 worth of dry goods. Plus the rice itself was like $18. Took me two hours to clean the pantry shelves and vacuum every crack. Has anyone else gotten burned by bulk buying and not using stuff fast enough?

Isn't the real problem here that you stored a giant bag of rice in a garage instead of a proper sealed container? Moths aren't going to just appear in a well-sealed plastic bin with a tight lid, that's basic food storage 101. Bulk buying is still cheaper per pound, you just have to put in a tiny bit of effort to keep pests out and you'll save money long term.
