I finally stopped wasting money on pre-cut veggies and started chopping my own

It sounds so dumb but I used to buy those bags of pre-chopped onions and bell peppers at the store. Then last month I did the math and realized I was paying like $3 more per pound just for someone else to cut them. I bought a $8 knife sharpener and now I can dice a whole onion in like 90 seconds. My stir fry meals went from costing $12 to $8 a batch. Anyone else feel dumb for not doing this sooner?

Feel you on this one. I did the same thing for way too long before my roommate called me out on it. The knife sharpener is a game changer, makes meal prep way less annoying.

Jump right in and get a good chef's knife if you haven't already. That $8 sharpener will only do so much if the blade is too thin or flexible. I spent $30 on a decent 8-inch knife five years ago and it's still going strong (just gotta hone it every few uses). Also, pro tip: toss your diced onions in a bowl of cold water for a minute before cooking, it cuts the harsh bite without losing flavor. The money savings is real though, I used to spend an extra $15 a week on pre-cut stuff for my meal prep. Now I buy whole vegetables and my wallet actually feels it.
