My bread knife snapped halfway through a baguette last Sunday
The blade just gave out when I was slicing a $1.50 store loaf for a family meal, and I had to finish with a serrated steak knife. Has anyone else had a cheap knife fail at the worst moment and what do you use for crusty bread on a budget?

Freaking lost it at "broke through a baguette" like what?? That's not even that hard of a bread to cut, a cheap knife really can't handle a basic crust? My old $5 ikea knife straight up bent in half trying to cut a sourdough loaf once, so I feel your pain on that level.

@allen.amy Did your knife actually fold over like a piece of paper? My buddy tried to cut a day-old ciabatta with a wobbly paring knife once and it slipped and sent the roll flying across the kitchen.
